Bangs or should we say Fringe? Whatever you call them they are hot! Sliding bangs, baby doll bangs, short and textured bangs which face framing method is right for you? It really depends on what you are looking for: trendy, face shape concerns or fix me! At this very moment I will say straight accross bangs strong accross the eyes with edges under the brows. Check out Katie Holmes.
New York Fashion Week Round Up
Fashions top roll out has played out last month at New York Fashion Week’s Bryant Park tents. The 2009 fall winter collections are big for the fashion world. With a pale hanging over this awful economy the top fashion thinkers respond. Fashion is a reflection of the mood of the body politic. As people shop and choose their clothing, their current mood and feelings affect choices. The collections take on three distinct directions as I see it: a 1960’s look back, the 1980’s full embrace and color me positive. Over all the mood has flashes of optimism yet is mostly muted and aggressive.
First the 1960’s look back. As Michelle Obama becomes the new Jackie O, I see a decidedly 60s influence on these runways. Hippie patterns, polyester fabrics and the Barbie show. This seems a nod to a more up beat and civilized economy. Michele Obama is clearly an important fashionista, she is now gracing the front page of Vogue. This may offer more stimulus to the fashion industry than most legislation that deals with the subject.
The hair of the most distinctive shows included 1960’s debutante look from the Oscar De La Renta show, wigs with strong bangs and the bubble bob from Phillip Lim, and long hair hanging loose parted down the middle at a series of shows. Of course hair is not the focus at these shows, with plenty of slick back styles that say, please look at the clothes.
Marc Jacobs reached back into his youth to find his favorite time. The early 80’s was recessionary time as well and thus the correlation. But Jacobs spouts bright colors with his party runway theme and he hits it on the head by saying, “This time the hair and make-up are the key accessories.”
Get back to business! From 1981 to 1982 had its own recession and just to make sure we don’t forget they brought the fashion back. The same decade that gave us, greed is good, also gave us shoulder pads. Big shoulders edged onto the runways of Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg and others during fall previews at Fashion week. This masculine feature says strength and don’t mess with me, check out Herve Leger by Max Azria for a full measure.
The weeks shows ended with amazing positivity and optimism. As a way to thumb their nose at this gloomy recession, black was less prominent at this set of shows replaced by color galore, metallic gowns, gold, glimmer and silver. The bright and positive seemed to say no to a recession you are not taking us down, we will fight you.
As these clothes hit North Shore boutiques this fall it is truly these entrepreneurs that will help us out of this recession. As these designers know all to well it is mood that affects buying habits. Whether the collections are muted and aggressive or optimistic these collections are a step in the right direction.
